"What is a Writing Armada?" you may ask
It's a group that will take the world by storm. (tee hee) Actually, it is a
writing peer group that a based on Ursula LeGuin's awesome book STEERING THE
CRAFT. The book contains great examples, commentary and exercises with the
aim to "clarify and intensify awareness of certain elements of prose writing
and certain techniques and modes of storytelling." This is the Armada's
motto and mission.
Who are we?
Some are people who enjoy reading and would like to write in a fun and safe
environment. Some are people who enjoy writing, but have not have not done
so in a long time. Some are people who have been dreaming of writing the
Great ___ (fill in the blank) Novel.
How is it going to work?
Because all of the Armada members are not in the same geographical area,
this will be an electronic experience. This is going to be our first go at
doing this electronically, so we will be working out specific logistics as
we go along.
Each of us will post our writing to the Writing Armada Forum. This will be our online message board. It
contains provide specific information
on how to use it.
It is our goal to have everyone post their writings to the site by every
other Wednesday. A large part of the experience will be in the critiquing.
All the members will have a chance to comment on everyone else's writing
within the site. Ursula LeGuin provides a specific guide to critiquing and
general peer group behavior/ etiquette. The introduction, and especially the
appendix contains this and other great material -- of
course, we will have to modify the information to work within this cyber
space.
If you have any questions, please send them along.
